What if I were a Dwarf Fortress character?
Jan 20th
So this morning in the standard IRC channel that myself and a few friends troll throughout the working day in order to maintain sanity, a friend of mine promptly went into a craze, describing me as if I was a dwarf from the awesome game Dwarf Fortress and you had just examined me. This came promptly after I went into a rant referring to myself in the third-person complaining about the hassles of budgets and money. So this is, apparently, what I would say if I were in Dwarf Fortress and you inquired about my thoughts:
Jiffy has been irritated about money lately. He slept in a fantastic bedroom recently. He spoke to a friend recently. He was satisfied at work lately. He admired own fine Bed recently.
Jiffy is a worshipper of Freedomassurance the Constitution of the United States.
Jiffy likes Tungsten, video games, Lizzy, dogs for their loyalty and tentacle demons for their corrupt intentions.
Jiffy is quick to anger. He is somewhat reserved. He finds rules confining. He is self-disciplined. He needs alcohol to get through the working day. He likes working outdoors and grumbles only mildly at inclement weather.
Now, to be perfectly honest, all of this is perfectly describing of me – with the exception of liking tentacle demons for their corrupt intentions. That part I’m not too sure about. But all in all, great job, and kudos to thp!

Now, for those of you that have been following the development of FilePirate – you might want to know that the beta test of FilePirate at last weekend’s GPA gameday did not happen – it was nowhere near done. And, actually, it still isn’t done – but it will be just in time for MassiveLAN! So come to MassiveLAN, frag your friends, meet new friends, frag them, and use the latest, most advanced piece of file sharing software possible!

MassiveLAN/JonnyFunFun.net Left 4 Dead Server
Apr 3rd
So, to help make my obsession with Left 4 Dead worse than it already is, I put up a dedicated L4D server on my server. The server has been put up as a MassiveLAN group server for all attendees and staff of MassiveLAN to battle on. So, if you’re a Left 4 Dead player, feel free to either connect directly to, or through the MassiveLAN steam group, the server: l4d.jonnyfunfun.net:27015. The server runs 24/7 and hosts only Versus mode. There are some tweaks to the config that will come down within the next few weeks, so please bear with me on that front. If anybody has any problems, complaints, or suggestions, feel free to post a comment here or send me an e-mail and I’ll see what I can work out!
My Newest Obsessions – iMob Online and Mafia Live!
Jan 26th
Okay, so recently I have found two apps for my iPhone, one free and one paid (but I got it on sale for only 99 cents) that have completely stolen my time – iMob and Mafia Live! They are, as you would assume, persistent, online games all about, you guessed it: making a mafia (or mob if you’re not up with the lingo). If you haven’t checked these apps out, do so. If you’re able to get Mafia Live! on sale still, do so – even if you have to pay full price for it, it’s worth it. They’re both good games, very intriguing, and both very fun to play. While iMob is much more graphical and has much more eye-candy, it crashes a lot and is slow (and at times painfully slow). On the other hand, Mafia Live! is not as graphical and rather plain looking, but it has never crashed for me and although right out of the box it was a little slow, it is never slow enough to make me want to throw -my iPhone to the other end of the room.
So, if you heed my advice and check these two apps out – be sure to add me to your mob. On iMob my friend code is 126-318-276 and on Mafia Live! my family code is 308-700-565. See you in the game!
Fallout 3: The Apocalypse Has Arrived
Oct 30th
Okay, so like all other good Fallout fans – I preordered Fallout 3 the second it was available for preorder thinking to myself, “regardless as to if it’s a good game or not, Bethesda has at least earned $80 from me simply because they decided to continue the Fallout legacy.” However, like most other gamers that have been let-down by development studios before, as it got closer and closer to the release date I became more and more weary of it. I did not want to fall into the pitfall again of getting my hopes up just to have them crushed. I had thought that Fallout 3 was going to be a superior let-down like most other games that have hit the shelves.
I’m glad to say that, in my opinion, I was wrong. Right from the beginning stages of the game, I was sold – with the exception that the intro video, I thought, was far too long and it seemed to have gone on and on with no end in sight. But when it was finally over – it was finally time to get down to playing, and that is just what I did. Your first sights out of your character’s eyes is his (or her) birth into the world. From there, the game’s tutorial follows your character throughout his (or her) childhood and adolescent life – going from your first steps as a toddler, to your tenth birthday, your first BB gun, your first slaying of a radroach, your (sweet) 16th birthday, and ultimately – your escape from the vault.
The first half hour or so of playing in the vault, I thought, was rather uneventful and somewhat boring – but it is necessary to build the back-story, and it does build up to the excitement which is your escaping the vault. In honor to Interplay’s legendary way of making your leaving the vault a breathtaking occasion – Bethesda managed to, at least again in my opinion, completely blow you away when this happens. I found it to be a very moving event, but that’s probably just my ability to really get “in the game.”
T-minus 12 hours until Fallout goodness
Oct 27th
So for those of you who are not down with the Fallout series, let me give you a little low-down on the history of these games. Fallout and Fallout 2 were published by Interplay in 1997 and 1998, and about 5 years later – they were hailed as being one of the top 5 best video games of all time. After the release of Fallout 2, Interplay began work on Fallout 3 (at the time, codenamed Van Buren). In 2004 they began encountering financial problems, and have since then shut down (though they have re-emerged with plans of a Fallout MMO, which I will discuss at a later time in a later article).
Anyways, they sold the IP rights to the Fallout series to Bethesda Softworks – who promptly said they weren’t continuing the development of Fallout 3. Bummer. Then they come back at the 2007 E3 with a smirk on their faces and say, “hey, we totally lied – look at what we got.” It’s Fallout 3 goodness – and that goodness comes out tomorrow. So if you haven’t done it yet, go and pre-order yourself a copy! I will post more tomorrow after I get to play it for the first time….
MassiveLAN 2008
Jul 22nd
Just like last year, the end of July brings forth the greatest time for all of gamers everywhere – well, mainly only in Western New York – MassiveLAN. Now even though pre-registration is closed, you can still show up at the door and attend the three-day frag-fest. And probably once again this year you can expect to see me acting all stupid, and offering everybody a great round of pictures for their cameras and cell phones.
